Merry X-mas from Tank Taco

It was a good Xmas. My son received a HO scale train that has been running in circle all Christmas long. He gave me a Tank from the local drug store (CVS) as a gift that turned out to be a Panzer IV, which turned out to be the same tank that I had just bought a Osprey Publication as a gift to my self.   It's a Xmas miracle!

Another Christmas miracle was getting some free time to put on test coat of Army Painter Quick Shade (Medium). It was a make or break moment for the future of me in this hobby, since my last attempt at shading with varnish was a horrible flop (the horror). But as I brushed on Quick Shade on to the only painted 15mm & 1/72 I had, which I had toiled over for far too long, and as the room was filled with the smell of turpentine cleaner & my sole was filled with the Xmas spirit, a Miracle happened once more, with the successful QuickShading of the figures, and thus an extension of my hobby pursuits into the future.

Airfix 1/72nd WWII British Paratroops

Comments: This is another set that I'm sure I had as a youth. This set is usable thanks to a couple of figures. The dying guy, the walking "game over" guy with  his right arm up, and the running guy are all figures I regularly us as soviets. Sorry guys, Uncle Joe needs you :-(

Heller 1/72nd WWII U.S. Paratroops/Paras Americains

Comments: Another Aixfix set, repackaged as Heller. These figures are real crap. The Officer & radio guy may be usable, and some of the others may make acceptable dead guys in another theater. I let my 5 year old play with these. The flash is so bad that there maybe no way to remove it. I may or may not had this set when I was a youth, however the lack of quality in this kit reminds me of those times long ago. Why is it that, these crappy sets have me typing in more than the others posts for now?

Heller 1/72nd WWII British Commandos/Commandos Britanniques

Comments: I was still in my western allies phase when I got these. They were cheap at $5.50us, and I was happy when I discovered that they were the same figures from a Airfix set that I had when I was a kid in the 70's. Even though this set is a bit crude and figures are small, it still has a lot of usable figures that could be used in many various ways. I use the ladder all the time. I think the kayakers will become civilians, shooting only the rapids in peace time.

Pegasus 1/72nd WWII US Rangers D-Day

Comments: This is a great kit. More dead, dying & wounded soldiers making it realistic for carnage during D-Day. The figures seem a bit small. I really love the exploding guys, the medics working on wounded and the terrain pieces. This was one of the first kits of 1/72nd I purchase during my current metamorphosis. I was frustrated at lack of quality US Army figure kits that I was finding at Hobby Shop, though this set did not let me down. It was after buying this kit that I decided to focus more on the action on the eastern front. I'm planning to convert many of these Rangers to Soviets for battle of Kursk. Sorry boys Uncle Joe needs you :-(  At some time in the future I hope to do Justice of the Normandy Landings genre.
